Go if

Anglers and off-grid tent campers who haul their own water and want a quiet alpine base camp mid-July through August, when afternoon thunderstorms are the worst thing on the schedule.

Skip if

No potable water on-site means a dry camp unless you carry every drop in. Add zero cell coverage and no trash service, and anyone who didn't plan for full self-sufficiency will find this trip harder than expected.

Overview

<p>The campground has 3 units, with a day use picnic area and toilets.<br />The maximum recommended trailer length for the area is 20&nbsp;feet.&nbsp;There is no garbage service at this campground, so please pack out what you pack in.</p>

About the campground

The elevation is 6,400 ft. The campground is comprised of two loops (A and B). Due to extensive hazard tree removal, there is little shade or middlestory. However, the views of the lake and surrounding mountains are super The grassland understory and lack of middlestory provide little privacy between campsites. Some sites are adjacent to or overlook Georgetown Lake. Parking aprons in Loop A are shorter than those in Loop B. Boats can be parked along shoreline at or near campsites. Some campsites are terraced with tables and grilles above the sites. The understory is grassy. All campsite are open and sunny; bring your own shade. Near boxes are provided. This is bear country; practice safe food storage techniques.

Directions

In Philipsburg, MT, at the intersection of State Rt. 1 and Broadway, take Rt. 1 south 10.7 miles to "National Forest Campgrounds" and "Georgetown Lake Rd" signs. Turn right onto Georgetown Lake Rd.and go 2.4 miles to campground on left.
