Weather and SeasonsFall delivers the best trail riding here. September through October brings daytime highs in the 45–65°F range with crisp mornings, and the hardwoods turn color across the hills. Mosquitoes have died off by then. A relief after buggy summer months. Peak color weekends draw moderate crowds. Summer trail riding is hot and buggy; bring repellent for yourself and your horse, especially at dawn and dusk.
Natural Features and SceneryThe campground sits within hardwood forest in the Waterloo Recreation Area, a landscape of rolling glacial hills, lakes, and wetlands at 965 feet elevation. Sites are shaded and grassy. The trail system winds through forest corridors that occasionally open to lake views and meadow clearings. In fall, the hardwoods put on a color show across the glacial terrain.
