Weather and SeasonsFall brings the best riding conditions. Daytime highs in the 50s–60s°F, crisp nights in the 30s–40s, and firmer, less buggy trails than summer. The hardwood color show peaks in October. Summer is warm but mosquitoes are thick. Trails are often at their firmest after the fall rains subside, and the equine confidence course and lakeside vistas see their best use. Fall weekends draw moderate crowds. Check DNR's posted seasonal dates before planning a trip.
Natural Features and SceneryThe campground occupies a mix of mixed hardwood forest, open meadows, and wetlands surrounding a small man-made lake. Towering hardwoods shade most sites and the 15 miles of riding trails that wind through the property. Rocky sections appear on some trail stretches. The Grand River corridor runs nearby, and the park lake offers shoreline access for fishing and paddling. Fall turns the canopy red and gold.
