Car campers can't get here, there's no potable water on-site so you're hauling or filtering your own, and the swim beaches turn murky with algae by midsummer. Smaller groups also pay for capacity they won't use across just two sites.

To update roads & parking lots, the road east of Kent Lake beach and Bluebird/Hickory shelters are closed through October. Kent Lake beach, Trout Lake, Kent Lake Dam and Hickory Ridge Trail parking is closed Aug. 8 through October. Spring Mill Pond will close Sept. 3 through October. To renovate the park entrance, vehicle access will close Sept. 16 through October. Trails will remain open and can be accessed via nonmotorized park entrances. There are two sites available for groups of up to 50. Each site provides a picnic table and fire pit. There is a hand pump for water and a vault toilet. Reservations can be made by calling the park office at 810-229-7067.

Summer is the primary season here. Expect daytime highs in the mid-70s to mid-80s°F and nighttime lows in the mid-50s to mid-60s°F. Long daylight hours support group activities, evening campfires, and water recreation. Weekends and holidays fill quickly, so reserve well ahead for the 50-person capacity sites.

The canoe campground, situated along the Huron River, offers two sites only accessible by canoe or kayak. Amenities include a vault toilet, fire ring and picnic table. There is no potable water available, so be sure to bring your own water or a water filter. Additionally, boat rentals are not offered by the park. Please note that there is a one-night maximum stay, as these sites are designed for paddlers on the river.
