Lakeport Group Camp sits on Lake Huron's eastern shore in Lakeport State Park, a few miles north of Port Huron. The campground draws families and groups to its grassy, lightly wooded terrain and rocky Lake Huron beach. Sites are large and level, suitable for tents and RVs with electric hookups. The camp store sells firewood, water shoes, and ice cream.
Campground includes tent and RV sites and a separate group camping area; group tent sites are reported clean and spaced for privacy. The site is family- and group-oriented with playgrounds and day-use beach access.
Weather and SeasonsSummer is the clear winner. Daytime highs run 75–85°F, evenings cool to 55–65°F thanks to lake breezes. Swimming, rockhounding, and beach activities peak from June through August, and long daylight hours make group scheduling easy. Expect crowded weekends. Families pack the sites and the beach fills up. Wind is a constant companion; bring layers and a windbreak. Water shoes are essential for the rocky beach. Reserve early for holiday weekends if you want the group site or a lakeside spot.
Natural Features and SceneryLake Huron dominates the view here. The shoreline is rocky. Beautiful for rockhounding, uncomfortable without water shoes. Clear water stretches to the horizon, and the open, grassy camping area offers partial shade from scattered mature trees. The flat terrain and lack of dense forest mean good stargazing on clear nights. Breezes off the lake are constant and cooling, even on warm days.
