Hoffmaster Group Youth Camp sits within P.J. Hoffmaster State Park's wooded dune landscape, 2 miles north of Muskegon on Lake Michigan. The 2 primitive group sites accommodate up to 54 campers total, with fire rings and picnic tables at each site. Modern showers and flush toilets are available nearby in the main campground.
A rustic, youth-only group campground area (two group sites) located within Hoffmaster State Park; intended for organized youth groups and reserved by phone.
Weather and SeasonsSummer delivers the most reliable conditions, with daytime highs between 75–85°F and nights in the mid-50s to mid-60s. Lake Michigan warms to the low 60s and 70s by mid-summer. This is peak season for swimming and beach access, but expect crowded weekends and holiday periods. Mosquitoes and biting flies are common in the woods during summer. Weekdays or shoulder seasons offer quieter visits with the same trail access, though some facilities may have reduced hours.
Natural Features and SceneryThe camp occupies a forested section of Hoffmaster's signature sand dune terrain at 676 feet elevation. Tall pines and hardwoods provide shade over the sites, while a small creek runs through the campground. Trails lead from the wooded camp area down to Lake Michigan's beach, passing through open dunes and mixed forest. The shoreline sits about a mile west through the dune system.
