Explore a rugged, isolated island far from our connected communities. Isle Royale offers adventures for backpackers, hikers, boaters, paddlers, and divers. Cross Lake Superior and make a commitment: Become a part of this island, and let it become a part of you. Best season: summer. Summer offers the only reliable access window (open June 1 through Labor Day) and the mildest weather—expect daytime highs generally in the mid-50s to upper-60s °F (around 55–70°F) with chilly nights in the 40s–50s °F. Calm summer conditions are ideal for the campground’s two best activities: long shoreline hikes and paddling along the rugged north shore (lake water remains very cold, however). Open June 1–Labor Day; calmest months for paddling and mild daytime temps.
Huginnin Cove Campground is set in a remote area accessible only by foot, canoe, or kayak, located on the north shore of Isle Royale National Park. The campground does not have docks, and its amenities are minimal, reflecting its rugged and primitive nature.
