Cross Lake Superior and make a commitment: Become a part of this island, and let it become a part of you. Find peace and refuge in island wilderness – because Isle Royale, in turn, finds refuge in us. Help Isle Royale stay wild.

Best season: summer. Calm, rain-free stretches make paddling across Wood Lake or Chippewa Harbor and the short ~0.6-mile portage comfortable, and water-based activities (paddling, shore fishing, wildlife viewing) are at their peak. Crowds remain low compared with mainland parks, though July and early August see the Peak months: July, August, June Avoid: October, November, December, January
Summer (June–Aug) is best; July/early August offer calm paddling conditions.
Lake Whittlesey Campground offers a minimal amenities setup, catering primarily to primitive camping needs. It features three individual tent sites with no boat access and relies on canoe/kayak access via a .6-mile portage from either Wood Lake or Chippewa Harbor. The campground is known for its quiet setting along the north shore of Lake Whittlesey.
