Explore a rugged, isolated island far from our connected communities. Isle Royale offers adventures for backpackers, hikers, boaters, paddlers, and divers. Cross Lake Superior and make a commitment: Become a part of this island, and let it become a part of you. Find peace and refuge in island wilderness – because Isle Royale, in turn, finds refuge in us. Help Isle Royale stay wild.
Isle Royale National Park headquarters is located in Houghton, MI. Visit the Houghton page on the Isle Royale National Park website for additional information and a map on how to access the visitor center.

Best season: summer. Summer offers the clearest, safest window to experience Duncan Bay's paddling, wildlife viewing, and sheltered bays — daytime highs are typically in the mid-50s to mid-60s F (10–18°C) with long daylight for exploring. Calm water days and milder weather make canoeing and kayaking between rock outcrops and spruce-lined coves ideal, and loons and other boreal wildlife are most active and visible. Crowds remain light compared with mainland parks because access is water-only, so you get solitude plus Peak months: July, August, June Avoid: September, October, November, December
Open June 2–Labor Day; calmest waters and best paddling and boating in summer.
Duncan Bay Campground offers basic amenities suitable for minimalistic camping. It features two shelters and docks with a depth of 6 feet in normal conditions, which are accessible to boats and watercraft. Campers must rely on their own provisions as there are no mentions of advanced facilities.
