Best season: summer. Summer offers the clearest and safest access to Wood Lake — warm, long days (typical daytime highs around 60–70°F, nights in the 40s–50s) make paddling across the lake comfortable and hiking the island’s rugged trails pleasant. This is peak time for canoe/kayak travel, fishing, wildlife viewing and enjoying the intensely quiet, boreal-forest shoreline; crowding is low compared with mainland parks because access is remote and stays are limited to two nights.
