<p>Sage Hen Creek Campground is located on the shores of the scenic Sage Hen Reservoir in the Boise National Forest, perched at an elevation of 4,800 feet. Visitors enjoy boating, fishing and exploring the Sage Hen Reservoir Trail. The 5 Sage Hen campgrounds are a beautiful, scenic destination for recreation and adventure.</p><p><strong>Natural Features:</strong></p><p>The campgrounds are situated in a forest of towering Ponderosa pine, Engelmann spruce, Douglas fir and grand fir. Most sites have plentiful shade and some have partial lake views. Summer temperatures range from 80-90 degrees during the day to crisp, cool nights.</p><p>A variety of berries and mushrooms can be found throughout the area. Local wildlife includes deer, elk, black bear, goshawk, woodpeckers and boreal owls.</p><p><strong>Recreation:</strong></p><p>Sage Hen Reservoir offers excellent boating, canoeing, and rainbow trout fishing. A boat ramp and dock are located within the campground.</p><p>Hiking, biking, horse and off-road vehicle trails are abundant in the area. The Sage Hen Reservoir Trail, a 4-mile loop around the lake, offers great fishing spots, beautiful viewpoints and abundant wildlife watching opportunities.</p><p>The Sage Hen and KYAOTT ATV Trail Systems can be accessed near the reservoir, offering more than 35 miles of trails for off-road vehicles and motorcycles, but hikers, mountain bikers and horseback riders can enjoy these trails as well. Check with the Emmett Ranger District Motor Vehicle Use map (MVUM) and the Boise National Forest map for open trails and roads in the area.</p>
The elevation is 4,800 ft. The campground, one of four in the Sagehen Reservoir Recreation Area, is located on the north shore of the Sage Hen Reservoir. Numerous camp sites enjoy views of the reservoir. Camp sites with no view of the reservoir, are adjacent to one of the creeks feeding the reservoir, e.g., Sagehen Creek. Camp sites 2,3, and 4 are on a tight loop which is challenging to large RVs. The campground is heavily wooded with Ponderosa pines and other conifers. It is attractive with lots of plants and other shrubs. The Sage Hen Dam was built by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) in the 1930s. The campground is pack it in, pack it out. Boise National Forest 122 This is bear country; practice safe food storage techniques.

The water spigots are hand pumps.
Sage Hen Reservoir is 270 acres. Power boats are limited to 15mph. The reservoir is used for irrigation and can become very low as the summer progresses; check with ranger district office for status.
The parking aprons are paved.
From Cascade, ID, take State Rt. 55 south 15 miles to Tripod Res. sign (High Valley Rd./Forest Rt. 644). Turn right after sign onto High Valley Rd.(gravel) and go 2 miles to a "Y" intersection (Forest Rt. 626). Bear right onto Rt. 626 and go 1.7 miles to another "Y" intersection. Bear left, staying on Rt. 626, and go 6.2 miles to another intersection (Forest Rt. 614). Turn right onto Rt. 614 and go 2.9 miles to campground sign. Turn left at sign into campground. NOTE: All forest routes are gravel, winding, and single-lane with turnouts.

Best season: summer. Summer is the best time to visit Sagehen Creek because warm, dry days (typically 80–90°F) and cool mountain nights (40s–50s°F) make the reservoir and surrounding trails ideal for boating, swimming, hiking, fishing, and mountain biking. Water activities are at their peak as the reservoir warms and boat access is reliable, while wildlife viewing is excellent in early morning and evening. Expect moderate to busy crowds on holiday weekends in July–early August, so book a site early and plan weekday/ Peak months: July, August, June, September Avoid: October, November, December, January
