July and August weekends turn this into a crowded scene with noise complaints, spotty shower access, and dumpsters that fill fast enough to attract wildlife. If solitude or reliable facilities matter, the peak-season reality won't match the scenery.

Summer brings daytime highs in the low 70s to mid-80s°F with nights dropping into the 40s and 50s. July and August are the busiest months. Reserve early if you're planning a peak-season visit. Fall sees some facilities winterize: water and sewer hookups shut down at certain campgrounds. Winter camping continues at select boat ramps like Blue Heron and Van Wyck until snow closes access roads, with temperatures bottoming out around 20°F. You'll need to bring payment envelopes for winter stays.
Primary season: best for water sports, swimming and boating; busiest in July–August.
