<p>Rattlesnake Campground is located approximately 14 miles north of Crouch, Idaho along the Middle Fork Payette River at an elevation of 3,621 feet.</p><p>The Middle Fork drainage offers excellent trail opportunities. Fishing and hunting are popular activities as well.</p><p><strong>Natural Features:</strong></p><p>The campground is situated on the banks of the Middle Fork Payette River among Douglas fir and lodgepole pine trees, which offer partial shade. A few sites offer river views through the dense vegetation on the banks.</p><p>A variety of wildlife makes its home in the Middle Fork drainage, including deer, elk and red-tailed hawks.</p><p><strong>Recreation:</strong></p><p>The Middle Fork Payette River offers good to excellent fishing most of the year. Anglers cast for whitefish and rainbow trout.</p><p>Many trails for hiking, mountain biking, horseback and ATV riding can be found in the area. The One Spoon Trail, Rattlesnake Trail and 465 ATV Trail are all in the vicinity of the campground.</p><p>In-season big game hunting for deer, elk and bear is a popular activity in the surrounding mountains.</p>
The elevation is 3,900 ft. The campground, pack it in, pack it out, stretches along the east bank of Middle Fork of Payette River. Most camp sites are adjacent to the river and are either under Douglas fir with no understory or privacy, or tucked into a dense middlestory with much privacy. The campground has a rustic feel. This is bear country; practice safe food storage techniques.

The parking aprons are dirt and grass. They are uneven and some have potholes.
From Crouch, ID, take S. Middlefork Rd. north 13.8 miles to campground sign. Turn left at sign into campground. NOTE: S. Middlefork Rd. becomes Middlefork Rd. outside of town and turns into a dirt road with washboard surface after 7.3 miles.

Best season: summer. Summer offers the most reliable access and the warmest, driest weather — daytime highs commonly range from the low 70s to mid-80s°F with cool nights in the 40s–50s°F — making it ideal for camping, river fishing, hiking and mountain biking. With the Middle Fork Payette at peak clarity and flow, fishing and river-side lounging are at their best, and trails are fully snow-free for exploring. Rattlesnake Campground offers a variety of amenities tailored to group camping. Visitors can expect picnic and utility tables, campfire rings, and a picnic shelter. The campground features two accessible vault toilets situated conveniently for group use. Ten parking spurs with lengths between 50-75 feet accommodate vehicles, and some sites provide partial shade from Douglas fir and lodgepole pine trees. A few sites offer views of the Middle Fork Payette River, though vegetation limits visibility in most spots. "The bathrooms were clean," noted user John T, and the pavilion was appreciated for communal gatherings. John T also commended the availability of potable water, describing it as a key amenity.
