Best season: fall. Visit in fall for peak aspen color and crisp, stable mountain weather — daytime highs are often in the 50s–60s°F with nights dropping near or below freezing, especially by October. Trails are quieter than mid-summer, making hiking, photography, and wildlife viewing (elk rut in September) especially rewarding. Cooler temperatures also make longer day hikes and ridge walks more comfortable, and campsite availability improves after the summer crowds thin. Peak months: September, October, July, June Avoid: November, December, January, February
Best season: aspens peak late Sept, cooler weather, decreased crowds and elk rut viewing.
