<p>This campground has a total of 47 campsites for tents, campers, trailers, or RVs. Picnic tables, fire grates, water, vault toilets, and trash services are provided. Not provided: electricity, hook-ups, dump stations, or showers. <!--StartFragment--><strong>All campsites with a tent pad have a bear locker.</strong><!--EndFragment--> Eight people are allowed per site except for units 12 and 32 which will accommodate 15 people each. Make reservations at <a href="https://www.recreation.gov/camping/campgrounds/232282">recreation.gov</a>.</p><p>Pawnee Campground visitors are subject to <a href="https://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/arp/recreation/hiking/recarea/?recid=28182&actid=50">Brainard Lake Recreation Area</a> fees.</p><p>Situated at the foot of the Continental Divide, Pawnee Campground is in a mature spruce-fir forest. Be prepared for cold and wet weather at any time. The elevation is 10,400 ft. The campground, located 0.25 miles from Brainard Lake, is composed of three loops among mature spruce and a few fir trees. The campground is very scenic and popular - reservations are suggested. It is convenient to the Indian Peaks Wilderness. The nights get quite chilly. This is bear country; practice safe food storage technique. Use provided bear-proof food storage box. NOTE: Because of high snow levels, the authors did not survey this campground. All information is provided by the Boulder Ranger District Office.

The water spigots are hand pumps.
Brainard Lake (popular for canoeing) is 25 acres.
The parking aprons are gravel; interior road is paved. An RV waste station is available at the Texaco gas station at the intersection of Glenwood and US Rt. 36/28th St. in Boulder, CO. There is no water.
From Nederland, CO, take State Rt. 72 north 10.9 miles to Brainard Lake Recreation Area sign. Turn left onto Forest Rt. 112 and go 5 miles to campground.

Best season: summer. Summer offers the most reliable access and the fullest range of activities at 10,350 ft — expect pleasant daytime highs around 50–70°F and crisp nights dipping into the 20s–40s°F. Trails, boat rentals on Brainard Lake, and prime fishing are all operating, and wildflower displays and alpine views are at their peak. Afternoon thunderstorms are common, so plan hikes for mornings and expect moderate day‑use crowds and busy campgrounds in July–August.
