The elevation is 6,400 ft. The campground, located just north of the Cache La Poudre Wilderness, is composed of two sections along the Cache La Poudre Wild and Scenic River. Each section has its own entrance, 0.1 miles apart. The first section is a grassy open meadow and very RV friendly with camp sites along the river's bank. The second section is for walk-in tent campers only with sites tucked in among Ponderosa pines and small scattered boulders. This section enjoys a very attractive location. Tents must be placed on hard surfaces only, not grass. The tent pads include tie-downs. The river can be heard throughout the campground. The campground is located just west of the geological feature called the "Narrows" - a cleft where the river has cut through rock walls.

Best season: summer. Summer offers the most consistent warm weather (daytime highs roughly 75–85°F, nights 45–55°F), full river flows for boating and rafting, and easy access on the canyon road. This is when fishing, riverside picnics, hiking along the Cache la Poudre, and wildlife viewing are at their peak; expect lively but manageable crowds on holiday weekends. Be prepared for afternoon thunderstorms (mid-July–August monsoon) and book early—Narrows has only 15 sites and reservations open on a rolling 6-month base Peak months: July, August, June, September Avoid: October, November, December, January
Peak season with best weather, high river flows in June/July ideal for rafting and fishing; campground fills fast.
