<p>Lodgepole Campground is located four miles north of Jefferson off County Road 35 and County Road 37. It has 34 campsites with parking spurs 20-40 feet and a maximum trailer length of 30 feet. The elevation is 9,900 feet. Facilities include toilets, tables, water, trash and fire rings. Dates are weather dependent. All services may not be available early or late in the season.</p><p>It is difficult to access Jefferson Lake Recreation Area during the winter months. The roads to this site are not maintained for snow throughout the winter.</p>

The elevation is 9,900 ft. The campground, one of three in the Jefferson Lake Recreation Area, is a large single loop among aspen and mixed conifer trees. Very little understory provides minimal privacy between camp sites, especially for those on the inside of loop. A connector trail between sites 10 and 11 provides access to the Colorado and W. Jefferson Loop Trails. Jefferson Lake is a short drive from the campground. This is bear country; practice safe food storage techniques.

Jefferson Lake is estimated to be 182 acres. It is a no-wake lake.
The parking aprons are gravel and dirt. There is an RV waste station (no potable water) is available for a fee at Texaco gas station in Fairplay, CO near intersection of US Rt. 285 and State Rt. 9.
In Jefferson, CO, at the Jefferson Lake Road/Michigan Creek Road sign, turn west onto County Rt. 35 and go 2 miles to end of pavement and Jefferson Lake campground sign. Turn right at sign onto gravel road and go 1.3 miles to Jefferson Lake Recreation Area entrance booth. Continue another 1.2 miles to campground sign. Turn left into campground.

<p><strong>Peaks to Prairies - Tracks to Trails</strong></p> <p>Pike and San Isabel National Forests & Cimarron and Comanche National Grasslands (<a class="offsiteicon" href="http://www.fs.fed.us/locatormap/index.php?lat=37.59&long=-104.77&zoom=7" target="_blank">forest locator map</a>) cover nearly 3 million acres, between the prairies of western Kansas and some of Colorado's highest mountain peaks along the Continental Divide. These sprawling forests and grasslands are an eight hour drive from boundary to boundary. This landscape offers a variety of ecosystems rich in history, geology, scenery, wildlife habitat and recreation opportunities.</p> <p>The rolling prairies to the east are home to prairie chickens, wildflowers, paleontological resources and historical areas. The snow-capped Rockies to the west are a scenic backdrop to millions of residents and a draw to forest visitors. The forests are home to nearly half of <a href="http://www.fs.usda.gov/detail/r2/recreation/?cid=stelprd3798321">Colorado's fourteeners</a> with numerous alpine lakes, reservoirs and key rivers. Over 385,000 acres of <a href="https://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/psicc/recreation/recarea/?recid=37201">Wilderness</a>, the Continental Divide National Scenic Trail, Colorado Trail, and Santa Fe National Historic Trail are special areas worth exploring.</p> <p>People who live near these areas maintain a strong relationship to the lands. The commitment and volunteerism that these community members have for these public lands is the foundation for our ability to maintain a quality, sustainable recreation program in the face of intense, and growing, urban demand.</p> <p><strong><strong>Critical Information about the use of Unmanned Aircraft Systems</strong></strong></p> <p>Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) or “drones” are increasing in popularity and can provide wonderful opportunities to explore the forest. Best season: fall. Fall delivers the iconic high-elevation experience at Lodgepole: crisp, clear days (highs commonly in the mid-40s to mid-60s°F) and nightly freezes that turn the aspen groves to brilliant golds and ambers. Hiking, wildlife viewing, and shoreline fishing/boating peak as crowds thin after summer but before heavy snows, and the light for photography is outstanding. Expect fewer campers and quieter trails, though be aware that early snow and Colorado big-game hunting seasons can affect access and on Peak months: September, October, August, July Avoid: November, December, January, February
Fall is the highlight: blazing aspen, cooler days, thinner crowds and excellent views.

Lodgepole Campground near Jefferson Lake offers a variety of amenities for campers. It features over 30 reservable campsites with gravel and dirt parking aprons. Each campsite includes picnic tables, fire rings, and grills. Vault toilets and potable water are available via hand pumps. Firewood is sold onsite for $10 per bundle. The campground lacks hookups for RVs and has no Wi-Fi or cell reception. Notably, there are no flush toilets or dump stations.
