Go if

Fall campers after quieter trails and cold, star-filled nights will find the best version of this place, with daytime highs in the 50s-70s and fewer crowds. Download the Recreation.gov app at home before you leave, since cell service on-site is unreliable for payment.

Skip if

No reservations means no guaranteed spot, and if your phone isn't prepped with the Recreation.gov Scan & Pay app, paying on arrival gets complicated fast. Anyone on a fixed schedule or without flexibility to be turned away should pick somewhere reservable.
