Fall offers the most reliable combination of stable weather, lower bug pressure, and striking late-season colors — ideal for grabbing a first-come, first-served site and getting the most out of shorter daylight hours. Expect crisp daytime highs and cool nights (commonly in the 40s–60s°F during the day and 20s–40s°F at night depending on elevation) with fewer afternoon thunderstorms than summer; trails and roads are usually in good shape before winter snows.
