Summer offers the most reliable, comfortable weather and full access to Bucks Lake recreation — expect warm days in the mid-60s to low 80s °F and cool nights in the mid-30s to mid-40s at 5,500 ft. Boating, fishing, swimming, and the best hiking conditions are all at their peak, and the campground is fully open with sites reservable during the high season. Crowds are present but moderate because Whitehorse has only 19 sites, so book early and be prepared for occasional summer wildfire smoke or an Peak months: July, August, September, June Avoid: October, November, December, January

Whitehorse Campground offers a variety of amenities, including 19 campsites suitable for RV and tent camping (16 standard non-electric sites and 3 equestrian non-electric sites). All sites feature fire rings and picnic tables. Vault toilets and potable water are available, and drinking water stations are provided throughout the grounds. Bear-proof food storage lockers were installed at most campsites in 2024. Trash services are available, although user reviews highlight occasional issues with overflowing trash bins and the proximity of dumpsters to campsites. There are no electricity or sewer hookups.
