No potable water means hauling your own, and this is genuinely wild country. One reviewer watched a mountain lion stalk a friend near camp. First-come only with just 7 sites, so showing up on a summer Friday without a backup plan is a gamble.

Summer is the best time to visit. Daytime highs reach the mid-60s (55–70°F) with cool nights dropping to the 30s and 40s. Trails and reservoirs are fully accessible for hiking, fishing, and boating. Afternoon thunderstorms are common in July and August, but the small site count keeps crowds moderate even on busy weekends. Winter access becomes difficult as temperatures drop to around 6°F and heavy snowfall closes forest roads.
Summer is best: mild days (55–70°F), trails and reservoirs fully accessible.
