Deanes Valley Campground sits at 4,652 feet in Plumas National Forest's Meadow Valley area, seven miles southwest of Quincy. The seven-site campground accommodates tents and small trailers, with vault toilets and fire rings. Sites provide adequate spacing for privacy, and the forested setting runs along a creek.
Deanes Valley Campground supports both tent camping and camping with small trailers. It is also one of the few campgrounds in the area to allow direct OHV trail access.
Weather and SeasonsFall brings the best conditions. Daytime temperatures in the 50s to 70s°F and cool nights in the 20s to 40s°F make hiking and OHV riding comfortable. Crowds thin out compared to midsummer, and the meadow takes on a golden, late-season look. Winter snow eventually closes the trails, so late September through October hits the sweet spot for weather, wildlife activity, and trail access.
Natural Features and SceneryTall conifers frame the camping area while a clear creek runs through the property. An adjacent meadow draws wildlife throughout the day and creates an open contrast to the dense woodland. Deer graze at dawn, and the mix of forest and meadow gives the area a varied feel. The elevation keeps temperatures moderate and supports the conifer cover that shades most sites.
Geological RegionNestled within the scenic Meadow Valley area of Mt. Hough Ranger District, this campground sits amid the stunning Plumas National Forest landscape. Towering conifers frame the camping area, while crystal-clear creeks meander through the forested terrain. The nearby meadow, a favorite gathering spot for local wildlife, adds an open, airy contrast to the dense woodland surroundings, creating a diverse and captivating environment for outdoor enthusiasts.
