Best season: winter. Winter brings the best mix of water, silence, and wildlife at Escondido — expect cool, crisp days (typically highs in the upper 40s to mid-50s°F and nights in the mid-30s to low-40s°F) and higher creek flows that make the Arroyo Seco come alive for fishing, waterfall viewing, and fern-lined hikes. Trails are quieter on weekdays and weekends outside holiday periods, so you get dramatic sandstone scenery and oak groves with far fewer people. Winter storms can produce muddy conditions and brief sp Peak months: December, January, February, March
Described as 'winter delivers the strongest experience': fewer insects, creek/waterfalls, good fishing.
