Campfire bans are currently in effect, so if a wood fire is central to your trip, this isn't it. The road has caused real undercarriage damage, reviewers have found sites littered with trash and worse, and there's zero water except at sites 3 and 4.

Summer brings the most reliable access and daytime temperatures between 65 and 85°F. July and August afternoons can produce monsoon thunderstorms with lightning, so plan morning hikes. Winter snow is possible at this elevation. Wind sweeps the ridges year-round. Clear summer nights are good for stargazing. Crowds stay moderate because the sites are remote and primitive.
Likely very pleasant—cooler temps and fewer storms; reviews imply good shoulder-season use.
