Weather and SeasonsBest season: summer. Summer offers the best balance of mild weather, longest daylight, and reliable wheeled‑plane access — expect daytime highs in the mid‑40s to mid‑60s°F (7–18°C) with cool nights. Hiking on lower slopes, berry picking, and abundant wildlife viewing (shorebirds, eagles, bears and coastal mammals) are at their peak, and trails/airstrip are least likely to be bogged by melt or heavy rain. Crowds are still light compared with roaded parks, but expect other backcountry parties and scheduled air traffic
Peak months: July, August, June, September
Elevation171 ft above sea level
Natural Features and SceneryThe cabin occupies gently rolling terrain blanketed with wild blueberry bushes. Tanis Mesa rises 500 feet half a mile to the southwest. One mile northeast, the Brabazon Range climbs past 3,000 feet. Cottonwood, alder, and willow stands start about half a mile out. Two miles north, Tanis Lake sits below Fassett Glacier. Moose browse the willows, brown bears work the berry patches, and mountain goats scale the Brabazon peaks. A small water source flows about 50 yards behind the cabin toward the mesa.
