The cabin is located 8 air miles east of Yakutat on the east bank of Situk River. Access is by trail, boat or wheeled aircraft.<br /><br /> From Nine Mile Bridge on Forest Highway 10, hike the 3-mile trail or boat 3.2 miles downriver (1.5 hour float). The cabin 9.6 miles upriver from Situk Landing (terminus of Lost River Road).<br /><br /> The Forest Service-maintained airstrip is about 300 feet from cabin. It is 1,800 feet long and 50 feet wide.

Best season: fall. Fall offers the best combination of weather, wildlife activity, and fishing at Eagle Cabin — crisp, cool days (typically 35–55°F from September into October) and clearer skies make for excellent hiking and photography. Salmon runs peak into early fall and attract bears and eagles to the Situk River, producing world-class wildlife viewing and angling with noticeably fewer visitors than midsummer. Cooler temperatures also reduce bugs and the dense summer fog, so boat access and river hunting/fish- Peak months: September, October, August, July

Eagle Cabin offers limited amenities suitable for remote camping. Facilities include a 14x16-ft. pan-abode style cabin with three single bunks and one double bunk, an oil heater, table and benches, picnic table, outhouse, and campfire ring. A 10x10-ft. meat shed is located outside. Water is not provided and must be treated if taken from the Situk River. Heating oil and electricity are not available, and visitors must supply #1 diesel oil or kerosene for the heater. Visitors are required to bring essential items such as sleeping bags, food, cookware, lanterns, flashlights, toilet paper, garbage bags, first aid kits, fire extinguishers, and fire starters. Trash must be packed out, and the cabin cleaned before departure.
