Best season: spring. Spring offers the best balance of mild temperatures, longening daylight, and abundant wildlife activity — expect daytime highs roughly 40–55°F (4–13°C) from May into June with frequent light rain and calmed seas between storms. Salmon return to nearby streams, migratory birds and breeding waterfowl are most visible, and trails and beaches are quieter than peak summer, making hiking, wildlife viewing, and early-season fishing especially rewarding. Access is straightforward by boat or floatplane,; Peak months: May, June, July, August Avoid: January, February, March, April
Described as most practical season; steelhead in April–May and calmer seas between storms.

The Salt Chuck East Cabin offers a rustic wilderness experience with minimal amenities. "The modified A-frame cabin has two wooden bunks and a sleeping loft that can accommodate up to seven people. It is equipped with a table, benches and a clean-burning oil heater." Guests will need to bring all their own necessities, including food, water, sleeping equipment, and heating oil. "An outhouse with a pit toilet is provided," but there is no potable water on-site and guests must treat water from a nearby creek before use. A rowboat and oars are provided for fishing although reviews note, "the boat is in disrepair, unsafe, and not usable, with bad leaks and cracks. It has been abused and not maintained for years." A broom, dustpan, axe, and splitting maul are generally available, although their condition may vary.
