Best season: fall. Fall offers the most striking combination of comfortable weather, dramatic foliage, and very low crowds because Hooks Brook is boat-only. Expect daytime highs in the 45–65°F range and crisp nights in the 30s–40s, making paddling and shoreline photography especially pleasant. The forested ridges surrounding the gorge blaze with color in mid- to late-October, and the quiet water makes for superb boat-in camping, fishing, and scenic paddling. Peak months: October, September, May, June Avoid: January, February
Fall is called out as the standout season with colorful hardwood ridges and pleasant temps.

Hooks Brook Boat Access Campground provides a rustic experience with limited facilities. Vault toilets are available, but there is no potable water, requiring campers to bring their own. The campground is boat-access only, located on the west bank of the Allegheny Reservoir. There are no boat docks available. Campfire rings and picnic tables are present, though user reviews indicate some of these amenities may be in poor condition.
