Best season: fall. Fall offers the most striking combination of comfortable weather, dramatic foliage, and very low crowds because Hooks Brook is boat-only. Expect daytime highs in the 45–65°F range and crisp nights in the 30s–40s, making paddling and shoreline photography especially pleasant. The forested ridges surrounding the gorge blaze with color in mid- to late-October, and the quiet water makes for superb boat-in camping, fishing, and scenic paddling. Hooks Brook Boat Access Campground provides a rustic experience with limited facilities. Vault toilets are available, but there is no potable water, requiring campers to bring their own.
