Zion National Park's main, south entrance and administrative offices are located near Springdale, Utah You may drive yourself on all open park roads except the Zion Canyon Scenic Drive. During most of the year, the Scenic Drive is accessed by shuttle bus only. Shuttles are free to ride. Board one in Springdale or at the Zion Canyon Visitor Center.

Best season: summer. Summer offers the best balance of reliable road access, open trails, and comfortable high‑country weather — expect daytime highs commonly in the mid‑60s to low‑80s °F and crisp nights in the mid‑30s to low‑50s °F. All primary activities (West Rim and Barneys Trail hiking, fishing/boating, wildlife viewing, and excellent stargazing) are available and the Kolob Terrace Road is normally cleared of snow. Crowds are light-to-moderate compared with Zion Canyon below, though weekend visitation rises in Peak months: July, August, June, September Avoid: October, November, December, January

Lava Point Campground is a primitive campground situated at 7,890 feet above sea level, providing cooler temperatures and scenic views. Amenities include picnic tables, fire rings, and trash receptacles at each of the six campsites. Vault toilets are available onsite, but there is no potable water or electrical hookups. Campers must bring their own water and firewood, as no firewood is sold on-site. Cell phone reception and Wi-Fi are unavailable.
