Fall delivers the best combination of hiking weather and color. Daytime highs hover around 45–60°F, nights drop to the mid-20s to mid-30s. Peak color usually hits late September through October. Crowds thin compared to July weekends. Winter snow is heavy at this elevation. Late spring through summer offers comfortable temperatures for sleeping outside and long campfire evenings, but mosquitoes swarm in the evenings. Bring bug spray. The campground is small enough that if it's full, you're out of options.
