State Rt. 410 east, Greenwater, WA
River-side sites like 35 are the move: good shade, White River sounds instead of highway noise, and easy trail access. Weekdays in early or late summer cut the crowds. Crystal Mountain is under 10 minutes away if you want a day trip.
Highway-side sites get real SR-410 traffic noise after dark, and there's no potable water on-site so you're hauling your own. RVs aren't supported, and the operational alert about potential seasonal road closures means confirming access before you book.

This campground is next to the White River in an old growth forest with Douglas-fir, cedar and western hemlock trees, providing abundant shade.

The elevation is 2,200 ft. The northeast entrance (White River) to Mt. Rainier National Park is 13.4 miles from campground. This campground, a single loop, stretches between the White River and State Rt. 410. Sites along the river, receiving some shade from young cedar, a few small Douglas fir, and other conifers, back up on the river and are much sunnier. Sites along Rt. 410 enjoy deep shade from huge, grand old Douglas fir but traffic noise is noticeable. (Be sure to visit the campground's eleven- foot diameter, 700 year old Douglas fir.) The dense vegetation offers excellent privacy to these sites while it is the separation between the river- located sites which provides them good privacy. Firewood available for a fee.

Summer brings daytime highs around 65-80°F with cool nights in the 40s-50s. Trails are snow-free, the river flows at a pleasant level, and the forest canopy keeps sites comfortable even on warm days. Weekends get moderately busy because of SR-410 access and proximity to Mount Rainier, so weekdays or early/late summer see fewer people. Early spring can still bring freezing temps and surprise snow flurries. Shoulder seasons turn wetter, with rain showers and occasional snow creating a quieter, moodier atmosphere.
Open May 24–Sept 3; trails snow-free, pleasant temps, busiest and best season for visiting.
