Summer mosquitoes are serious enough that reviewers specifically call out window screens and screen-room tents as gear you'll need, not optional extras. No hookups, no showers, and pack-it-out trash policy means this isn't a convenience stop.

Located 20 minutes south of Paisley, Oregon, Marsters Spring is a rustic and peaceful campground along the banks of the Chewaucan River. The water level stays consistent on this river, providing good habitat for fish.

Anglers can cast their line for catch-and-release bull trout. A creek flows amid sagebrush and through a mixed stand of alder, juniper and ponderosa pines. The Chewaucan Crossing trailhead is just one and a half miles up the road. You can either drive or walk along the river.

Ten widely spaced campsites offer privacy. All sites have picnic tables and fire grates, and there are two vault toilets. A hand pump gives access to fresh, potable water.

There are no garbage receptacles, so remember to “pack it in, pack it out.”

The elevation is 4,700 ft. The campground, pack it in, pack it out, stretches along a bank of Chewaucan River through a stand of mixed deciduous trees, such as alder, and conifers, such as juniper. The willow-lined river can be heard throughout much of the campground. Although just a grass understory, widely spaced campsites offer good privacy and some back up to the river.
Services provided only form July 1 through October 31
The water spigot is a handpump.

Fall delivers the best conditions. Days run 50-70°F with nights dropping to 25-40°F, creating ideal weather for fishing and hiking through golden alder and sagebrush. Trout become more active, wildlife prepares for winter, and crowds thin to low-moderate levels (weekends busiest). Summer offers escape from valley heat but brings mosquitoes. Reviewers strongly recommend bug spray and window screens. Winter and shoulder seasons can bring snow and frost. Spring and fall weather shifts quickly from sun to rain.
Fall described as best: 50–70°F days, chilly nights, trout more active and golden alder colors.
Potable water is not available at this site.
