June and July bring swarms of mosquitoes that multiple reviewers describe as relentless. There's also no potable water on-site, so pack it in, and occasional train noise reaches camp after dark if silence is non-negotiable.

Fall offers the best conditions: crisp days between 45–65°F, nights dropping into the 20s–30s, and minimal mosquitoes. Summer brings heavy mosquito populations in June and July, though evenings cool sharply to 35–40°F even in warm months. Pack layers regardless of season. The creek runs low in autumn, making pleasant rest stops during hikes. Fall also coincides with hunting season, so wear blaze orange if you're hiking nearby trails.
