Lofton Reservoir Campground, Fremont National Forest, Oregon

No potable water on-site is a real logistics issue, and the nearest resupply is Bly, about 45 minutes out. First-come-first-served means summer holiday weekends carry real risk of arriving to a full campground.

The elevation is 6,100 ft. This scenic campground stretches along a bank of Lofton Reservoir and loops through a stand of mixed conifer trees. The campground, pack it in, pack it out, is popular with canoeists and bird watchers with fishing and hiking close behind. The campground has two personalities. First, sites along the water have a developed feel and appearance. Second, the campsites away from the water have a rustic, dispersed feel and can accommodate large groups. Aspen Ridge Resort, 5.5 miles south of campground, offers a cook's night out (reservations for dinner are recommended) and overlooks the historic Fishhole Creek Ranch. The lily- pad-covered Lofton Lake is located just before the campground entrance. This is bear country; practice safe food storage techniques.
Open May 15 through October 15.
