The campground is closed through 2025 for renovations, so there's nothing to book right now. When it reopens, Chipmunk Loop's tight, sun-exposed sites and the rocky, sometimes algae-prone beach will disappoint anyone expecting classic sandy lakefront camping.

Summer brings the best conditions for swimming, boating, and beach use. Typical highs reach 70–85°F, with nighttime lows in the mid-50s to low-60s. Lake water warms enough for comfortable swimming, and trails stay fully maintained. Weekends and holidays draw crowds; weekdays are quieter. Winter offers cross-country skiing and snowmobiling when snow covers the trails. The park had a reservation suspension starting Labor Day 2024 for major facility work.
Summer is peak: best for swimming, boating, sunsets and high positive review volume.

Selkirk Shores State Park offers a variety of amenities suitable for campers and day visitors. On-site facilities include boat launch sites, picnic areas with tables, pavilions, restrooms with showers, a playground, and a fish cleaning station. Firewood is available for purchase at the park office. Reviews highlight the well-maintained grounds, convenient dumpsters and recycling stations, and a small general store located in the Chipmunk loop. However, it is noted that there is no water hook-up at campsites, though a fresh water filling station is available. The bathhouses are described as clean but dated, with push-button showers that save water.
