Families who want a legit lake destination close to a city: the swimming beach is staffed, kayak rentals run weekends through Columbus Day, and site 84 has room for a large tent. Summer scores a 4.5 and the old-growth forest loop is genuinely worth the drive.
Light sleepers and privacy-seekers will struggle, the Rolling Hills section packs sites close enough that a neighbor's campfire conversation carries into your tent. Shower temps are inconsistent, and quiet hours aren't reliably enforced on peak weekends.

Summer brings the warmest conditions for water activities. Daytime highs typically reach the mid-70s to low 80s°F (24–28°C) with cool nights. The park's official swim season runs Memorial Day through Labor Day, making July and August prime time for swimming, boating, and paddling. Expect full campgrounds and higher weekend crowds during peak summer. Fall delivers color displays in the surrounding forest with crisp air for hiking. Winter opens the trails to cross-country skiing and snowshoeing as temperatures drop below freezing.

Green Lakes State Park offers an extensive range of amenities including biking trails, bird watching, a dump station, a first aid station (operational during the swimming season), fishing areas, frisbee golf, a golf course, handicap access, hiking trails, hot showers, interpretive programs, kayak rentals, parking, picnic shelters, picnic tables, a playground, restrooms, and a swimming beach. Located within 10 miles of the park, visitors also have access to baseball/softball facilities, convenience stores, cultural sites, malls, and museums. Visitors have noted that the facilities are generally well-maintained, but some campers have expressed dissatisfaction with shower water temperatures.
