The El Rito Campground--Group Shelter provides a well-equipped camping experience within Carson National Forest. The campground features a majestic timber shelter built on a concrete foundation in 2018. It is set in a grassy meadow near the El Rito Creek, 200 feet from the river. The group shelter includes several essential amenities: a large grill with pedestal at the shelter, seven picnic tables (four of which are at the shelter), three campfire rings, and a vault toilet. There is one trash receptacle on-site, and the area accommodates three large RV trailers and ample space for tent camping. Notable for its exclusivity, it is a fenced and gated area reserved exclusively through Recreation.gov. Visitors must bring their own drinking water as there is no water available on-site.
