Best Time to Camp at Apgar Group Sites

Summer days at Apgar can surprise visitors with their warmth, as temperatures occasionally soar past 90 degrees in the valleys—though you'll find blessed relief as you venture into the high country. Mother Nature keeps campers on their toes here, where afternoon thunderstorms can roll through with dramatic flair, and yes, even July might dust the distant peaks with fresh snow. This western slope of the Continental Divide catches more moisture than its eastern counterpart, creating the lush forests that surround your campsite. Pack layers and rain gear—the mountains have their own agenda, and that's part of the adventure.
