Best season: summer. Summer offers the warmest, most reliable weather and full access to Hungry Horse Reservoir’s water recreation — expect daytime highs around 65–80°F and cool nights in the mid-40s to low 50s. Boating, swimming, and shoreline fishing are at their peak, and trails into surrounding peaks are generally snow-free for day hikes. Note that July–August bring the highest demand (Lost Johnny has only five sites), so plan ahead and reserve as soon as reservations open. Peak months: July, August, September, June Avoid: October, November, December, January
