Best season: fall. Fall offers the best combination of mild weather, dramatic color, and solitude — expect crisp days around 50–70°F and chilly nights in the mid-20s to low-40s°F at 4,482 ft. Trails, creekside walks, and wildlife-viewing are at their peak as aspens and shrubs turn gold and red, while summer crowds thin out. Note that Montana big-game hunting runs through parts of the fall, so wear blaze orange and check local season dates before you go. Peak months: September, October, August, June Avoid: December, January, February
Source states 'Fall delivers the best experience' with aspens and cooler days/nights.
