No potable water on-site means hauling everything in. Winter access is unreliable past late fall, and anyone hunting nearby in September through November will share the woods with blaze-orange-wearing hunters.

Fall brings the best conditions here. Days are calm and sunny with highs between 40 and 65°F, while nights drop into the 25–40°F range. You'll find fewer people, stable weather, and active wildlife during migratory movements and rut season. Snow arrives by late fall and lingers into spring, creating opportunities for winter camping and cross-country skiing if you're equipped for cold. Summer is warmer but can bring afternoon thunderstorms. Big-game hunting seasons run September through November, so wear blaze orange if you're hiking then.
