<A HREF="https://www.usbr.gov/projects/index.php?id=142">Lahontan Dam</a> and Reservoir,on the Carson River store the natural flow of the Carson River along with water diverted from the Truckee River. The dam is a feature of the <A HREF="https://www.usbr.gov/projects/index.php?id=368">Newlands Project</a>. There is a powerplant immediately below the dam. Surface area of approximately 11,200 acres at full reservoir storage with 69 miles of shoreline. Fishing season is year-round. The reservoir is a warm-water fishery that supports white bass, walleye, white crappie, catfish, and brown and rainbow trout. A health advisory has been issued by the State of Nevada regarding consumption of fish caught in the reservoir due to mercury contamination.

Summer is the primary season here. Expect highs in the mid-80s to low-90s and nights in the mid-60s to mid-70s. The southwest breeze makes sailing and windsurfing excellent and keeps afternoons comfortable. Fishing is most productive at dawn and dusk. All services. Water, restrooms, showers. Are open, typically April through October. Holiday weekends fill up, and afternoon thunderstorms are common to this part of Missouri. Winter camping (November through March) means reduced services and a quieter experience.
