<p>Located at 38003 N. Winnie Camp Lane Pennington, MN, 18 miles from Cass Lake, Minnesota. Take Highway 2 six miles east. Turn north on County Road 10 and drive two miles to County Road 91, turn right onto 91 and follow for 3.2 miles to FR 2171. Drive six miles northeast on Forest Road 2171 to Forest Road 2168, then four miles south to the campground. The elevation is 1,300 ft. The campground stretches along the southern end of Lake Winnibigoshish (Winnie) in a lush stand of Red and White pine. A popular activity for visitors is a stroll along the shoreline and looking for bald eagles. Dense middlestory provides excellent privacy. Some campsites overlook the lake. Some parking aprons are grass; some are dirt.
From Cass Lake, MN, take US Rt. 2 east 5.7 miles to County Rt. 39. Turn left onto Rt. 39 and go 2.3 miles to campground sign (County Rt. 91/Forest Rt. 2171). Turn right onto Rt. 91/Rt. 2171 and go 1.5 miles to another campground sign. Turn left (no route number) and go 5.8 miles to still another campground sign (Forest Rt. 2168). Turn right onto Rt. 2168 and go 3.8 miles to campground.

Best season: fall. Fall offers the best combination of cooler, crisp days and spectacular color in the red and white pines and mixed hardwoods around Lake Winnibigoshish, making hiking, wildlife viewing, and shoreline fishing especially rewarding. Expect daytime highs in the 45–65°F range during early fall visits and much cooler nights — insect pressure drops and the forest takes on brilliant golds and reds. Note: Winnie Campground is only open through September 1, so to experience the campground in fall you’ll be Peak months: August, July, June, May Avoid: September, October, November, December
