No potable water, no vault toilets, and only three sites with no reservations means you might drive 25 minutes from Baldwin to find it full or trashed. Google Maps directions are reportedly wrong, so call the Baldwin ranger station before you go.

Summer delivers the best conditions, with daily highs in the mid-70s to low-80s°F. Water levels stay amenable for canoeing the South Branch Pere Marquette, and the lake warms enough for afternoon swims. July and early August see the busiest weekends, though crowds stay lighter than developed state parks. Bugs are a given. Spring and fall bring cooler temperatures and showery days. Winter transforms the area into quiet, frozen solitude. Temperatures drop into the 20s at night, hovering around 40°F during the day.
