Kayakers and small-boat campers who want a self-sufficient shoreline experience in summer. The wildlife viewing is genuine, deer and raccoons are regular visitors, and the tidal creek access is the whole point of coming.
Tent campers expecting level ground will fight the uneven sites without a thick sleeping pad. No potable water means hauling in everything you drink, and strong currents at the landings can turn arrival and departure into a real challenge if you haven't checked marine forecasts.

Janes Island State Park is surrounded by Chesapeake Bay waters and features rental cabins, pavilions, campsites and the Daugherty Creek Lodge. More than 30 miles of marked water trails dissect a 2,900 acre Chesapeake Bay salt marsh island. Limitless vistas over shallow bays, marshes and low vegetation impart a sense of space and solitude. Crabbing is a family favorite at Janes Island. Summer brings the best conditions, with daytime highs between 55–75°F and long daylight hours from June through August. Calm seas and milder winds make this the ideal window for boating and wildlife viewing. Seals, seabirds, porpoises, and orca sightings increase during these months. Expect moderate crowds on summer weekends, so plan early morning or weekday visits. Strong currents can complicate docking and landings even in good weather, so check marine forecasts before heading out.
