Early fall brings the best conditions. September daytime highs run 50–65°F with nights dropping into the 30s and 40s. Crowds disappear, mosquitoes taper off, and shoreline trees and granite show peak color. Fishing and paddling remain excellent. Summer heat attracts heavy mosquito and black fly populations, especially in July. Afternoon thunderstorms are common. Winter closes the campground under heavy snow and freezing temperatures. Bring layers for cool fall evenings and be ready for occasional rain.

Silver Island Lake provides a rustic camping experience with limited amenities. The campground has eight sites in total, with three additional backcountry sites accessible by boat. Official sources mention facilities such as fire rings, tent pads, and latrines. However, potable water is not available, and campers are advised to treat water from the lake before use. There is no garbage pickup at the site, meaning campers must pack out all waste, including fish remains. The campground includes a boat launch with a dock and overnight parking for visitors using the backcountry sites. Vault toilets are available at the campground, while wilderness latrines are accessible at the backcountry sites.
