Bay View State Park sits on the eastern shore of Padilla Bay, about 15 minutes from Anacortes. The park has 91 sites for tents and RVs, plus rental cabins, all facing island-dotted water and pebbled beaches. Sites cost $10–$40 per night. Camp hosts are on-site, and the park offers flush toilets, hot showers, and a small store selling firewood and ice.
Campground supports a mix of overnight options including tent sites, RV/trailer sites with electric plug-ins, on-site cabins, and a group shelter area.
Weather and SeasonsSummer offers the warmest, driest weather and the best window for beach walks, tidepooling, and evening sunsets over Padilla Bay. Daytime highs typically reach the mid-60s to mid-70s°F, with cool nights in the low 50s°F. Low tides in summer expose extensive mudflats that bring shorebirds close to the beach for outstanding wildlife viewing and photography. Trails and blackberry patches are at their peak for biking and short hikes. Weekends are busiest in July and August, so reserve campsites in advance. Wild roses bloom in June, and blackberries ripen along the trails in July. Mosquitoes are rarely a problem.
Natural Features and SceneryThe campground occupies low-lying coastal terrain at 33 feet elevation, bordered by Padilla Bay's estuarine shoreline. At low tide, extensive mudflats stretch out from the beach, drawing shorebirds close for wildlife viewing. The bay itself offers views of surrounding islands, and bald eagles and owls are frequently spotted overhead. Rabbits hop through the campground loops. The park abuts the Padilla Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve, which runs an interpretive center nearby. The beach is pebbly rather than sandy, and mud becomes prominent at lower tides.
