State Highway 20, Anderson Ranch Reservoir East Shore, Idaho
Anglers targeting kokanee, smallmouth bass, or rainbow trout below the dam will get the most out of this place. It's free, open all summer, and the concrete boat ramp is right there when water levels cooperate.
Reservoir levels can drop enough to strand the boat ramp and dock, which guts the main draw. No potable water on site means hauling everything in, and Mountain Home for resupply is 35 miles out.

The elevation is 5,200 ft. The campground, pack it in, pack it out, stretches along Johnson Creek in mature Ponderosa pine. Most camp sites are adjacent to the creek which can be heard throughout the campground. Less than a mile away is the town of Yellow Pine. This very small, rustic town was established in 1902. Here one can enjoy roaming around the town and having a cook's night out. In addition, the very rustic 18-hole Yellow Pine Golf Course is found just before entering town. It is carved out of a large stand of huge Ponderosa pines. This public course will be fun for the whole family and golf experience is definitely a disadvantage (big grin). During the first full weekend in August, Yellow Pine hosts its annual Harmonica Festival. Due to the huge crowds during the festival, finding a camp site in the campground will be a challenge. This festival is big fun for all, participants or not. Gas and limited groceries are available in Yellow Pine.
Services are provided from Memorial Day weekend through September 15.
The parking aprons are dirt and rock; some are irregular in shape.
In Cascade, ID, at the intersection of State Rt. 55 and Warm Lake Rd., take Warm Lake Rd. east 24.3 miles to Yellow Pine sign. Turn right onto a gravel road and go 14.9 miles to another intersection with a "Yellow Pine" sign. Summer brings warm days, typically 75–85°F, with cool nights dropping to 45–55°F at this elevation. This is peak season for boating, waterskiing, and fishing. Snow-free trails make hiking accessible. Weekdays stay quiet around the seven sites, but weekends and holidays draw more visitors. Winter transforms the area into snowmobile country. Groomed trails run through the forest north of the campground, which closes when snow arrives. The Pine Winter Sports Area operates during snowy months for registered snowmobilers.
