No potable water on-site is a hard stop for anyone who can't haul enough for a full stay, and the 9,800-foot elevation plus nights dropping into the 30s will punish campers who arrive underprepared for cold.

<p>This campground lies at the upper end of Taylor Park popular with off-highway vehicle users. A lengthy network of motorized trails leads from the Castle Creek Valley to Taylor Reservoir. This regions is great for enduro trail bike riders. The area offers good fishing and mountain biking. Landscape includes pine trees and riparian meadows.</p>
The elevation is 9,800 ft. The campground stretches along the base of a spruce-covered hillside overlooking a spacious sagebrush valley and Collegiate Peaks Wilderness. The campground is convenient to several OHV trails. The campground is popular for anglers and OHV enthusiasts. There are many dispersed camping areas along Forest Rt. 742 and the Taylor River.
Open May 20 through October 1.
The water spigot is a hand pump.
The parking aprons are dirt and gravel. There is an RV waste station on Forest Rt. 765, 3.5 miles east of the intersection of Forest Rt. 742 and Forest Rt. 765 - no potable water and no fee.
In Almont, CO, at intersection of State Rt. 135 and County Rt. 742, take Rt. 742 for 23.3 miles to intersection of Forest Rts. 742 and 765. Continue straight on Rt. 742 for another 14.4 miles (last 12.8 miles are dirt) to campground sign. Turn left into campground.

Summer brings the most reliable conditions. Expect sunny days in the mid-60s to mid-70s°F and cool nights dropping into the 30s and 40s. Trails and roads stay open, water levels support good trout fishing, and biking and wildlife viewing peak. July and August weekends see the most visitors, but with only ten sites, Dorchester stays quieter than larger campgrounds in the area. The season runs late May through October.
Summer offers most reliable conditions, mid-60s/70s days and open roads/trails.
