Go if

Fall tent campers chasing aspen color and shoreline rainbow trout fishing. Daytime temps in the 45-65°F range thin out the insects and the crowds, and the lakeside sites are genuinely worth the first-come drive. Bring all your own water, the Florence Lake Store is three miles out

Skip if

Rattlesnakes, water snakes, scorpions, and heavy mosquito pressure are consistent complaints, not isolated incidents. No potable water on-site and some sites sit right on the road. Also worth calling ahead: dead-tree removal has knocked sites out of commission with no warning.
